Specialized joins our journey as Neutral Tech Support Partner

In a unique partnership, Specialized will provide neutral tech support at the inaugural Nedbank Gravel Burn, delivering pro-level mechanical support to every rider in the field — regardless of the brand of bike they ride.

At each Padstal (the local name given to our on-route service stations), Specialized will provide complimentary servicing during racing hours, with riders only covering the cost of any parts. Each Burn Camp will also feature a fully equipped workshop, offering pre booked service packages or walk in maintenance.

In a move that sets the Nedbank Gravel Burn apart, no rider will bring their own mechanic. Whether racing at the front or deep in the field, every participant will be supported by the same highly qualified team of Specialized technicians, experienced in all bike brands and components. This provides a fair and seamless tech solution for pros and age groupers alike. A centralised setup guarantees the same level of service for all riders.

“Our goal is simple – get every rider and every bike across the finish line,” says Bobby Behan, CEO of Specialized South Africa. “We believe Nedbank Gravel Burn represents the future of stage racing when it comes to pro-am events. Gravel has been growing exponentially, and this will be a catalyst for making it the category in cycling. We’re proud to be embedded in the rider experience from start to finish. Our team will be out on the course, at every Burn Camp, and behind every rider – pro or age-grouper – regardless of what bike they ride.”

“This partnership means a great deal to me,” says Kevin Vermaak, Founder of Nedbank Gravel Burn. “Bobby and I go back many years, and I have complete trust in him and the Specialized team. Their neutral tech support is not only world class, it is available to every rider. That kind of accessibility is rare — and essential. It reflects exactly the kind of gravel race we are building.”

Nedbank Gravel Burn has adopted a non-exclusive approach to bike industry partnerships and welcomes brands across the spectrum. For example, Pinarello has reserved a dedicated Lapa to host their top performing dealers from around the world, and recently partnered with the event to host Firestarter evenings in London and Zurich. The incentive trip underscores the event’s international appeal and brings global cycling leaders to South African gravel.
